It's not that it's difficult, it's just very frustrating at times and takes a LOT of patience and practice.

I always end up tracing the picture, damn. If I see a picture on my screen and try to draw it, I end up with massively warped proportions. Tips?

Get a grid. You can put it on blank paper, or you can take it into a program and put a grid over it. There are a bunch of pictures that already have grids over them. Then get a grid of your own on paper and try to follow it as best you can. :) It can definitely help on proportions.

How do you get such a high quality photo off the internet? When i save the images they allways come out poorish quality ;/

Well, if you save something as a PNG, then the file will usually keep its integrity. If you save it as a Jpeg, then you have to make sure that the quality is very high (DPI-dots per inch, or PPI-pixels per inch, I usually don't save it unless it's very large). Also, when searching the internet, there's an option when browsing images at the top: Small images, Medium images, Large images or Very Large images. While it constricts the results I can use, I usually only brows the large and/or very large images. Most of the stock photos here on DA are pretty big too.
